  • Ghanaians students who find themselves back in the country due to the Russo-Ukraine standoff are unhappy and frustrated.
  • The students have expressed their disappointment as government has not been able to enroll them in new schools.
  • They described the whole process as slow and beckoned on the government to expedite actions to secure schools for them.

Following tensions in war-torn Ukraine, Ghanaian students who were successfully evacuated have expressed remorse for returning to the nation.

The dissatisfied students claimed that the Ghanaian government had failed to keep commitments made to them, despite giving them hope and assurances that they would be able to attend school.

“We had a few of meetings initially, and they [the Ghana government] let us aware that they are very well positioned to support us and secure schools for us,” Philip Bobbie Ansah, President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Ukraine Chapter, stated.

“They wanted information, which we provided. Everything seemed to be moving at a glacial pace. We have no idea what’s going on right now.”

“We don’t know what’s causing the delay,” he added, adding that the pupils are angry.

“Some of us refused to travel to Ghana, which appears to be the wisest decision because they have options. It now appears that some of us made a mistake by traveling to Ghana “On Citi FM in Accra, he stated.

Some people have refused to return home during the evacuation and have chosen to stay in Poland and other countries.

HOW I RAN MAD ON MY WEDDING DAY – WOMAN NARRATE STORY

Wedding day is arguably the most memorable day for every bride, and that applies to a woman identified as Fiana, but in her case, it was all for the wrong reasons.

On that fateful Saturday, some 18 years ago, Fiana was preparing to meet her friends and family gathered to witness her holy matrimony with her lover, when she suddenly felt dizzy and later ran mad.

Her family said the pain was so unbearable that she could hardly stand on her feet as she only screamed at top of her voice.

Moments before she was to walk down the aisle, Fiona was said to have run uncontrollably, stripped her clothes and began behaving inappropriately.

What was supposed to be a happy day for her became a topic of gossip, as she herself was confined to a psychomedical centre that same day.

Speaking to Afrimax English on her condition, Fiana said it was the scariest and unexplainable incident she has ever witnessed in her 38 years on earth.

She believes her situation is spiritual because her situation gets critical anytime she shows little improvement.

According to her family, whenever she relapses, she locks herself up in her room and fasts for days in a bid to break whatsoever supernatural force that may be wrestling with her.

To date, Fiana has lost her mobility and has since not regained her senses.

Her supposed groom has moved on with his life after three years and has left her to her fate.

He is currently a married man with three children and has since not checked up on her.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER PROGRAMMING

Understanding computer programming and how to become a programmer

Computer programming can as well be defined as a process that leads from an original formulation of a computer problem to execute problems, computer programming is also referred to as programming.

It entails or encompasses other activities such as understanding, analysis and generally solving problems that results in algorithm, (one may ask, what is an algorithm? Algorithm is a set of rules to be followed in calculations or other problem solving operations, especially by a computer), verifying the algorithm requirements and coding the algorithm in a target programming language, the program also involves the implementation of the build system and managing derived artifacts like computer programs, machine codes.

Most often, the algorithm is represented in human-parseable language such as Java, python, smalltalk among others.

THE PURPOSE OF COMPUTER PROGRAMMING
Programming is more fun and astonishingly useful as it builds your creativity and creates new career doors for those passionate about it. Most people today don’t really know how a computer works even thou they can simply turn on a computer or a mobile phone by just clicking on some buttons or swiping finger or two on the computer to does what they want. Learning how to write computer programs will require one to understand how a computer works.

Computer programming servers the purpose of finding a sequence of instructions that are able to automate the performance of a specific task or solve defined problems. Programming process therefore requires expertise in a variety of other subjects such as the knowledge of application domains, formal logic and specified algorithms. Computer programming is usually regarded as one phase in software development process within software engineering.

Books that touch on such subjects as well as the specific language one may want to learn. Amazon reviews or other similar sites usually helps when it comes to distinguishing good books from the bad ones.

The next thing is getting an interpreter for the specific language one desire to learn. An interpreter is just a separate computer program that normally translate written ideas in a programming into a machine code enable one to see things work. There are numerous programs and all that is needed is just a choice of a program that meets the particular needs.

The other thing one can do is to try to put together their ideas to form any working program. This can be done by starting with a simple thing such as a program that convert currencies as one works their way into things that are money oriented.

We’re not robbers, forgive us’ – Siblings arrested for flaunting guns in viral video Source: Ohemeng Tawiah 22 June 2021 6:00am

Three siblings from the Obuasi suburb of Gausu arrested for flaunting guns in a viral video on social media say they regret their action.

They say maintained innocence in any alleged criminal act.

One of them, Apostle Alfred Dakurah, who has been speaking to JoyNews on how they acquired the guns, says they regret their actions.

“We don’t blame anybody because we ourselves, we did the video. But rather, we blame ourselves for doing such a video,” he lamented.

“We truly regret because we didn’t know such video will come out and bring a lot of issues in the country and also affecting the country. And for that reason, we truly do regret recording such a video.”

The video recording shows the siblings brazenly displaying pistols and a pump action gun.

Apostle Alfred Dakurah, Richard Suleman and Emmanuel Dakurah, aged 43, 28 and 26 respectively, reported themselves to the police after heavy public condemnation.

Though police are yet to receive any public complaints against the three, one of them has since been granted bail.

In his interview after the arrest, Apostle Alfred Dakurah, head pastor of Obuasi-based God’s Time Prayer Ministries, says he and his brothers are already reeling under the criminal tag imposed on them.

“Now the entire family everybody is crying because we have been tagged that we are armed robbers and it’s a bad family,” he explained.

According to him, the arrest of the siblings has affected his church’s membership as well.

“Even for myself as a pastor, even yesterday I was in church to preach. Only a few people came because many people say that the man of God is an armed robber. In my life, I have never stolen before.”

Apostle Dakurah also explained how he and his brothers got the guns, stressing that the video was recorded on November 26, 2020, at  Takpo in the Upper East region.

“The Pump Action gun is my own gun. It’s my registered gun. And also where I come from in my culture as Dagarti in Wa, during funerals, we do shoot guns and other things for our rituals. So my grandmother died and as a leader of the family, it’s my duty to go there with a gun so that I can use the gun to perform the funeral  so that’s the reason why I took the gun from Obuasi to Wa.

The funeral was 26th November 2020.” According to him, he only used his licensed Pump Action gun at the funeral of his late grandmother in a performance of traditional Dagati rites.

His brothers, together with other residents of Takpo in the Nadowli Kaleo District of the Upper West Region seized the pistols without magazines from people who wanted to take over a ‘galamsey’ site in that community.

“Those my younger brothers are galamseyers. Recently, there had been galamsey works going on in my village, that is, Takpo there so they had a grudge with some of the galamseyers and retrieved those guns from them after the fight because they always come there to force them just to sack them from the site because of the gold.

“So they too [my brother’s group] decided that they will fight them”.

Covid-19: Deadly Indian strain detected in Ghana – Sputnik V, AstraZeneca vaccines not effective against it

The most contagious Covid-19 variant, originating from India, has been recorded in Ghana.

Head of the West Africa Center for Cell Biology and Infectious Pathogens, WACCBIP, of the University of Ghana, Professor Gordon Awendare confirmed that the Indian variant, also known as the Delta variant, is one of the forty-five (45) variants which are currently in Ghana.

The Indian strain has caused huge spikes in India, and a serious increase in cases in the UK despite the fact that large sections of the population in those countries are vaccinated.

“Overall we have about 45 or 46 different variants. The trend shows that all these normally come from travellers. Now that the Delta (Indian Variant) is taking over, it’s just a matter of time before it will come here in large quantities. We have a few here but it’s going to increase,” Professor Awendare explained to Daniel Dadzie on JoyPrime’s Prime Morning.

Professor Awendare called on the government to immediately enforce the Covid-19 preventive protocols to stem a potential spread of this deadly variant.

In addition, he added that the controls at the Airport must be tightened to stop more importation of the variant.

Professor Awendare revealed that the AstraZeneca and Sputnik V vaccines are not effective against the Indian variant.

“Now we have to be looking at the right vaccines. All this while, we’ve been fixed on AstraZeneca and Sputnik V but we have to shift towards more of Pfizer and others which have a better chance of protecting against this variant. Because the future is, we are going towards these aggressive variants”, he stressed.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified this coronavirus variant, first found in India last year, as a “variant of global concern”.

It said preliminary studies showed that this specific mutation spreads more easily than other variants.

A mutation is elevated from a “variant of interest” to a “variant of concern” (VOC) when it shows evidence of fulfilling at least one of several criteria, including easy transmission, more severe illness, reduced neutralisation by antibodies or reduced effectiveness of treatment and vaccines according to the global health body.

Controversial awards scheme organiser, ‘Dr UN’ arrested

The initiator of one of the country’s most controversial award scheme, Kwame owusu Fordjour has reportedly been arrested.

Dr UN as he is popularly known was picked up at his premises of the kumasi-based radio station HELLO FM by national security operatives after an interview on Friday.

Mr Fordjour is the organiser for the infamous group Global Blueprint Excellence Awards, which has been described by many as a scam following the revelation that it has no affiliate with the UN as it has touted.

He has been accused of using the United Nations and formal UN Secretary – general kofi annan’s name to do the award scheme appear credible, a claim he has fought off vehemently.

A video has however surface the Internet that shows Mr Fordjour has been whisked out of the hello fm by persons believed to be with country security agency while some staff of the station looked on.

The self-style ambassador is seen in an altercation with the security personnel while demanding that he sees an arrest warrant.

One of the persons is heard in the amateur footage telling DR UN to comply with the plain-clothed personnel. He is further seen ranting as he is guided into the salon car of the personnel.

sources say DR UN was arrested in 2018 for a similar event held in the Ashanti region which has been cited as fake, he got arrested and was later granted bail.

In the month that followed sources indicate he failed to show up in court anytime the case was called. An infringement for which the asorkore mampong magistrate court issued a warrant for his arrest.

But the latest incident which sparked an uproar among Ghanaians seems to have flown in the face of his bail condition.

Mr Fordjour had since been remanded by the asorkore mampong magistrate court for two weeks in custody. Hours after his arrest social media is circulating footage said to be that seemingly hearty DR UN behind bars.

Heeeeerrrrh DR UN be hard rough😀😀😀😀😁😂

FDA destroys seized COA-FS and other assorted items in Cape Coast

The Central Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has destroyed quantities of seized COA-FS food supplement and other assorted items declared as unwholesome to safeguard public health and safety.

The four tons of destroyed items valued at ¢54,300.00 included all five brands of product areas regulated by the Authority – food products, drugs mainly herbal, orthodox, medical devices, and cosmetics.

Mr. John Odai-Tettey, the Regional Director of the Authority disclosed in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

The products were seized from markets, warehouses, shops, voluntary submission of expired products, and manufacturing and retail shops through intensive market surveillance and swoop across the Region.

He said the exercise was to serve as a wake-up call to all manufacturers, importers, individual shop owners, cold-store owners, and wholesalers to disengage in the sale of expired, fake and unregistered goods.

He called on consumers to be bold to expose those dealing in unwholesome or expired items by reporting them to the Authority for immediate action.

They must also critically check the expiry date, batch number, labels of food items, and legibility of the manufacturers before purchasing the products.

He cautioned persons selling expired products to stop because when caught, sanctions or jail term awaits them depending on the quantity of the expired products on the market.

He further urged operators of food and drug manufacturers to always exercise good manufacturing practices and avail themselves for training and industrial support programmes routinely organized by the Authority and also license their operations and products to avoid the consequences.
